There is something special about a classic Milwaukee wedding, and Heidi and Alec’s day brought together so many of the city’s most iconic locations.

They were married in a traditional Catholic ceremony at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, followed by portraits along Milwaukee’s lakefront and an elegant reception in the Grand Ballroom at The Pfister Hotel.

With a soft blue and white color palette, timeless florals and nearly 200 of their closest family and friends, their August wedding was classic, elegant and incredibly fun to photograph.

For couples who love classic architecture and want to celebrate in the heart of downtown Milwaukee, The Pfister Hotel offers so much variety for a wedding day. Between the historic interiors, Grand Ballroom, iconic staircase and downtown exterior, there are plenty of opportunities for photographs without ever leaving the hotel.

It’s also close to some of Milwaukee’s best portrait locations. Heidi and Alec were able to incorporate Lake Michigan and the Milwaukee skyline into their wedding photographs before returning downtown for their reception.

As a Milwaukee wedding photographer, I especially love days like this because they combine so much of the city into one wedding gallery: the lakefront, downtown Milwaukee, historic architecture and all of the moments happening in between.

A Traditional Milwaukee Wedding Ceremony

Heidi and Alec chose not to do a first look, saving the moment they saw each other for the ceremony.

After getting ready separately, they met at St. John Neumann Catholic Church for a traditional Catholic ceremony surrounded by their family and friends.

Their wedding style carried throughout the day with white florals, touches of blue and a wedding party dressed in shades of light blue and navy.

Wedding Photos Along Milwaukee’s Lakefront

After the ceremony, we headed toward downtown Milwaukee for wedding party and couple portraits near Harbor House.

This stretch of Milwaukee’s lakefront is such a great location for wedding photography because it gives you beautiful views of Lake Michigan while still keeping the Milwaukee skyline in the background. It also worked perfectly with Heidi and Alec’s classic wedding style.

We photographed the wedding party along the water before taking some time for portraits of just the two of them. Since Heidi and Alec chose not to do a first look, this was also their first chance during the day to slow down and spend a little time together after the ceremony.

Nighttime Wedding Photos at The Pfister Hotel

Before the night ended, we stepped away from the reception for one last round of portraits.

Some of my favorite photographs from the entire wedding were actually taken at this point in the evening. We photographed Heidi and Alec throughout The Pfister, using the hotel’s historic staircases and architecture, before heading outside for nighttime portraits beneath the iconic Pfister awning.

I always love giving couples the option to sneak away for a few photographs later in the evening. The timeline is more relaxed, the formal parts of the day are finished, and it gives us the opportunity to create something completely different from their daytime portraits.

For Heidi and Alec, it was the perfect way to finish photographing such a beautiful Milwaukee wedding.
